Affordable Housing in Blaine County

For too many of our friends and neighbors, affordable housing is not an option in Blaine County. As a result, many of the essential members of our workforce struggle with housing cost burdens that prevent them from full engagement with our community. In Blaine County, 12% of our residents live below the Federal Poverty Threshold of $26,500 (family of 4). Additionally, 40% of our community is subsisting on a survival budget, known as ALICE (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed), meaning that within those families, one unexpected cost or emergency can bring devastating consequences.
This is not a sustainable economic system for a vibrant thriving community.
The Blaine County Housing Foundation, through coordinated efforts with other local community partners, provides Housing Gap Funds to our households in Blaine County of up to $500 to mitigate the effects of an unexpected cost, whether an emergency medical bill, loss of time at work due to illness, automotive repair, or other unplanned events. The Foundation offers this assistance to those making less that 80% of the Area Median Income of Blaine County, namely, our essential workers.

The GEnerosity of Neighbors

Many of our neighbors have stepped up to help us help others. Blaine County Housing Foundation has received generous support from individuals and organizations, such as 100 Men Who Care and the Idaho Community Foundation.  With the help of their generosity, the Foundation has been able to provide assistance on more than 20 different occasions. The Foundation has established a working relationship with Blaine County's Indigent Fund and the Blaine County Charitable Fund so that our assistance is targeted, coordinated, and effective.
The need remains and as the COVID-19 Pandemic continues to ravage our communities, there will be additional overwhelming demand for help. As a community, we can come together to support our friends and neighbors--the essential workers of our community, the people who form the foundation of what makes Blaine County the place we all love to call home.
